The NAC’s naval affairs program coordinator, Dr. Ann Griffiths, has been pursuing the development of a children’s book. The intent is to make the general public and our youth more aware that Canada does indeed have a Navy and that that those who serve in it have careers, families, interests, and do great and interesting work. This “first go” is focussed on 8 year olds and is about a young girl whose mom goes to sea and participates in the RCN’s support to the help the people of Haiti recover from an earthquake. The story is told through the young girl’s eyes and how she and her mom keep in touch. All to say, we believe it is a great read and hopefully similar stories aimed at informing Canadians, including children and youth, about our Navy will follow if this is a success. Price $10 ($12 with shipping). Initial production run is a modest 500 with the intent to meet any future demand. We are also working on payment options. This will make a great addition to a school library, CAF family support centre, town/city library, Christmas gift….
