NAC Children’s and YA Books
The idea for this book series, of which “Over the Horizon” is the third and most recent, was born of a conversation with a mother of small child. She said that her son loved to read books about firemen and policemen. It seemed a great idea to create a book about sailors. So, we have created books that tell fictionalized accounts about real things that the Royal Canadian Navy and the RCAF Maritime Air do.

Hunter and Hunted: On Board a Canadian Corvette in the Battle of the Atlantic. Written by Ann Griffiths. Illustrated by C George-Hill
When Canada declared War on Nazi Germany, young men and later young women across the country volunteered to serve in the military. Like so many Canadians of the era, our hero Charlie didn’t want to miss the action. He signed up join the Royal Canadian Navy. Charlie was soon to take part in the longest battle of the war – the Battle of the Atlantic.
Part of the Naval Association’s mandate is public education, and this was a way to tell Canadian families about what their navy does.
