Mike Hoare

Mike was enrolled in the Regular Officer Training Plan at the age of 16.  He has served in the Army and Navy in both the Regular Force and Reserves completing a total of 32 years combined service. Primarily, he served as a Specialist Officer in the Personnel Psychology Branch in a variety of positions, ultimately becoming the Senior Reserve Personnel Selection Officer in the Canadian Forces. He was Commanding Officer of HMCS Prevost, London’s Naval Reserve Division from 1997-2000 following which he performed a variety of specialized duties reporting to Naval Reserve Headquarters until reaching CRA in 2005.

In civilian life, Dr. Hoare has worked primarily in the fields of health care and human services in both practitioner, governance and academic roles. He took early retirement from Fanshawe College (London) in 2003 as Dean of Health Sciences and Human Services with emphasis on private practice and consulting. He has most recently completed a six year Order in Council appointment as Vice Chair of one of Ontario’s Regional Health Boards. Mike has a doctoral degree with specialization in organizational psychology and is a long standing member of the Canadian Psychological Association holding a variety of professional qualifications.

He is a founding member and Vice Chair of the London Military Family Resource Centre and a founding member and Life Member of the Garrison Community Council (London). Formerly he has served as President of the Royal London Military Institute, President of the Naval Officers Association of Canada (London), Chair of the Board of Directors of the Grand Bend Area Community Health Centre and Chair of the Board of Governors, Commissionaires Great Lakes. He is currently the President and Executive Director of the Royal Canadian Military Institute in Toronto.
