Catherine “Cathy” Flemming
Cathy’s service with the Canadian Armed Forces Reserve began in Montreal, QC as a teenager, and while enlisted, she was fortunate to travel to both the east & west coasts of Canada during summer breaks from school, while training and working with the military. Initially her trade was a boatswain, and although she enjoyed this trade, she was motivated to transfer to Communications learning Morse code, signal flagging, and radio operation. Upon graduation from nursing school, she was encouraged to write her commissioning exam and upon passing, worked within the Naval Reserves as a Nursing Sister. She continued her commitment to the health profession in both civilian and military life and was released from the Naval Reserves in 2004 with the rank of LCdr. and retains many fond memories of her time served.
Working for several decades in the hospital setting, Cathy was employed in various disciplines including research, ICU, & solid organ transplantation. She gravitated to teaching and in 2020 retired from her position as a CEGEP Nursing Teacher. She believes that to teach is to learn and she says that she has benefited as much from her students as she hopes they have from her.
Enjoying being a life-longer learner now that Cathy is semi-retired, she is taking the opportunity to explore new venues of interest and education.
