Welcome to NAC Ottawa

Welcome to the Ottawa Branch of the Naval Association of Canada - formerly known as the Naval Officers Association of Canada. The Association recently approved expansion from its traditional base of retired naval officers to include a larger representation of serving members, as well as all those who are interested in the welfare and support of Canada's Navy. The Ottawa Branch, NAC is composed of members who are ready, willing and able to actively and effectively take steps in support of the aspirations of the Navy, the need to recognize and preserve Canada's maritime heritage, and the expression of naval camaraderie and mutual assistance
Over the past few years NAC Ottawa has become more active in Naval Affairs as well member support. Membership in the Ottawa Branch NAC offers:
- A strong speakers program focussed on issues of importance to our navy. Two years ago we addressed shipbuilding and some of our members were able to join in the debate regarding establishmentCanada's new national shipbuilding strategy. Last year we turned our attention to personnel - another critical issue for the Navy. This year we are looking into the case for a Canadian national payload strategy as we examine howCanada can develop the most expensive part of a warship - the payload.
- A forum where members can interact with today's leaders. The strength of our speakers program is evidenced by the outstanding quality of our speakers including senior naval officers, government leaders, key industry participants and experts in the field. Speakers not only provide a unique source of information for our members and support our deliberations but also take away invaluable input through our privileged platform [Chatham House Rules] approach. The high regard in which this forum is held is evidenced by the waiting list of speakers wanting to address our membership.
- Member support. The branch, lead by Denny Boyle, has developed a program to provide support in a number of areas: death of a Spouse [partner or family member], caregiver burnout, alcoholism and estate planning.
- Two receptions at Bytown - spring and fall.
- Wednesday lunch get-togethers at Bytown.
- Quarterly copies of the outstanding Branch newsletter SOUNDINGS.
- Copies of the national newsletter STARSHELL published twice per year.
- Naval news, weekly updates on our Navy and MARPAC's strategic assessments.
- Worldwide items of Naval interest such as the RAN 100th anniversary bookhttp://www.nxtbook.com/faircount/RoyalAustralianNavy/RAN100/index.php#/0
There are many benefits we bring to our membership but I suspect the real reason our members join the Ottawa Branch is that they share an interest in our Navy and realize that a strong organization such as ours is critical to the Canadian Navy's long term success. If by chance you are not a member please click on "How do I Join?" below to join our team.
Cheers
