Richard Guitar had a 25 year career in the Navy and went from being a Submarine Electrician to a Sea Logistics Officer, retiring from Canada Command as a Lieutenant-Commander in 2008.
During his career he spent two years in Esquimalt, five years on the east coast, then by some Career Manager’s brainstorm was posted to CFB Portage La Prairie for three years after he received his commission. Then he spent five more years on the East Coast and came to Ottawa in 1997. Since then he has worked across NDHQ.
After retirement he consulted with ADM(Mat) and worked at Babcock, the Maritime Staff, and Blumetric Environmental. He has also been active in the NAC and the Canadian Forces Logistics Association since 2006 and has been on the board of HMCS Bytown Inc. since 1998 as Treasurer, Secretary and Associate Director. He took over as Chairman of the Salty Dips Committee in 2013.
