David Coulson

David Coulson has been a member of NOAC / NAC for decades, both during and following his Naval Reserve career. A General Practitioner, he worked in to his early 80‘s while always maintaining an interest in issues affecting Canada’s Navy. A graduate of Queen’s University, David worked as a GP in Thunder Bay, St. Anthony Newfoundland, Musquodoboit Harbour Nova Scotia, Kingston and finally in Thunder Bay again.
During his long and varied Naval Reserve career, and alongside his duties as Medical Officer, he participated in numerous Naval Control of Shipping Exercises, at times representing Canada in multinational NCS exercises. He was appointed Commanding Officer HMCS GRIFFON, a position he held for three years, followed by a term as Senior Naval Reserve Medical Advisor. As SNMRA he was involved with CIOMR (Interallied Confederation of Medical Reserve Officers) for many years, representing Canada in conferences across Europe. He retired from the Naval Reserve at the rank of Captain(Navy).
David was President of the Thunder Bay Branch for several terms, the most recent ending six years ago, and was noted for his ability to engage members and local dignitaries in Branch events. He continues to read voraciously about the Navy and Canada’s history.
David is currently retired, living 9 months of the year in Kingston and spending summers in Thunder Bay.
