Alain Garceau joined the Navy in 1973 as a Marine Engineering Technician, was commissioned in 1986 from the rank of PO1. He served as SO Maritime Engineers at MARCOM HQ, as MSEO in HMCS SKEENA and as MSEO of Sea Training (Atlantic). In 1996, he was appointed as the DC Division Commander in Halifax, NS. Upon completion of the CF Command and Staff College in 1999, he was appointed to the Directorate of Science and Technology Maritime at DRDC in Ottawa. Following graduation from the Master of Business Administration program at the University of Ottawa, he was appointed at the Directorate of Maritime Personnel of the CMS staff and later as the Director of Military Career for the Navy in 2004 until promoted to Capt(N) in 2006.
After his appointment as the Naval and Joint Attaché at CDLS(Washington) in 2009 and after over 36 years of service in the Regular force, he component transferred to the Naval Reserve and accepted the appointment of Director of Maritime Personnel, followed by appointments as Director Naval Succession Planning and SA to DGNP. Alain Garceau served 16 years at sea in HMCS ATHABASKAN, IROQUOIS, SKEENA and Sea Training (Atlantic).
Alain Garceau is married to Marie, have 3 children and 3 grandchildren. He retired from the Canadian Armed Forces/Royal Canadian Navy 31 July 2014.
